Help with Homework
Our After-School Program provides homework help for all students, using paid tutors and volunteer mentors, including retired teachers and college students. Students earn Seneca Street dollars by completing homework and other educational activities. The “dollars” can be used to shop in our SSCDC store, providing an incentive for successful assignment completion.
Snacks and Dinner
Healthy snacks are available to all students as they arrive at our program. Dinner is offered everyday at 4:15-5:15 pm and is provided by Nine’s Foodservice, a Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) food caterer. CACFP is a federal program that provides reimbursements for nutritious meals. The guidelines support healthy, balanced meals that include a variety of vegetables and fruits, whole grains, lean meats or meat alternatives, and low-fat or fat-free dairy.
Enrichment Activities
Many of our students do not receive academic support outside of school, so we work hard to present engaging enrichment activities. The SSCDC proudly offers youth empowerment programs like Girls On the Run and Heart & Sole, which both encourage the development of self respect and healthy lifestyles. We partner with several organizations, such as the SPCA and Mark Carra’s Fascinature to encourage continued learning through fun activities. Additional programs are developed based on student interest, such as painting, DIY crafts, cooking and computer lab. There is also a gym, outdoor playground, and basketball court on-site!
